About Myself

Don Low
Singapore

Though Don was born & bred in Singapore, he has never gotten used to the hot & humid climate here. And unlike locals, he has never successfully enjoyed chilly and spicy food without working out a sweat. Therefore he longed to live in the northern part of the earth's hemisphere or the south where he could see a change of seasons and where the weather is not as harsh. Don is basically a self taught artist and an engineer by training.

In 2006 he was awarded a MDA Media Education Scheme scholarship to pursue an overseas graduate studies in animation. In addition he interned and worked a year for The Walt Disney Company Imagineer/Parks & Resorts Online as a Visual Development / Concept Artist.

“I am an animator. I feel like I'm the manager of a animation cinema factory. I am not an executive. I'm rather like a foreman, like the boss of a team of craftsmen. That is the spirit of how I work.”
--- Hayao Miyazaki.

Gone and back again… Tiong Bahru Estate

Even after the gallery show, I have been back to Tiong Bahru now and then just because the estate is very near to where my wife works. However each time when I was there, it felt different all the time. My wife does not like the buildings in Tiong Bahru; she said they look more [...]

Breakfast & Sketch @ Jago Close

Well we were back at Jago Close again… for breakfast! As usual we ordered fried carrot cake, both black and white versions, then washed down with coffee and topped it all up with Roti Prata! We sat quite near the road so our view was the building on the opposite side where a really tall [...]

Just some random sketches

There is a Japan Gourmet Town in Raffles City Basement. One of the outlet is like Mache, you pick a card at the entrance and buy stuff with it, then pay later when you exit. Food is a pricey and reasonable in taste. Not so spectacular that I will develop a craving but nice enough [...]

Sketches done at San Pedro

San Pedro is a hilly beach neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles, California, United States. It was annexed in 1909 and is a major seaport of the area. The town has grown from being dominated by the fishing industry to become primarily a working class town within the City of Los Angeles. The name [...]

Work in Progress

Showing here 2 WIPs as part of the daily draw and sketch exercise. Both characters came to mind when I was minding my own business on the great white throne this morning so I couldn’t wait. It’s part of a painting and character design practice. You know, we artists have to sharpen our skills all [...]

Glendale Borders

Our neighbors told us it was not usual to be so cold in Glendale. In fact it was the wettest and the coldest season since he moved here. Wow… everywhere we landed, we experienced extreme weather. We remembered our other landlord telling us during summer when we arrived in LA, it wasn’t so hot either. [...]

Monterey Bay – Pacific Coast
