Don Low
Singapore

Though Don was born & bred in Singapore, he has never gotten used to the hot & humid climate here. And unlike locals, he has never successfully enjoyed chilly and spicy food without working out a sweat. Therefore he longed to live in the northern part of the earth's hemisphere or the south where he could see a change of seasons and where the weather is not as harsh. Don is basically a self taught artist and an engineer by training.

In 2006 he was awarded a MDA Media Education Scheme scholarship to pursue an overseas graduate studies in animation. In addition he interned and worked a year for The Walt Disney Company Imagineer/Parks & Resorts Online as a Visual Development / Concept Artist.

“I am an animator. I feel like I'm the manager of a animation cinema factory. I am not an executive. I'm rather like a foreman, like the boss of a team of craftsmen. That is the spirit of how I work.”
--- Hayao Miyazaki.

Gallery Show Opening Reception June 30

Everything was worth the time and energy. The turn out for the exhibition was overwhelming. Food was great (though I did not manage to get a bite) and the music has enlivened a sleepy Tiong Bahru. I am both glad and pleased that we have decided to do this – a gallery show of our [...]

Breakfast & Sketch @ Jago Close

Well we were back at Jago Close again… for breakfast! As usual we ordered fried carrot cake, both black and white versions, then washed down with coffee and topped it all up with Roti Prata! We sat quite near the road so our view was the building on the opposite side where a really tall [...]

Just some random sketches

There is a Japan Gourmet Town in Raffles City Basement. One of the outlet is like Mache, you pick a card at the entrance and buy stuff with it, then pay later when you exit. Food is a pricey and reasonable in taste. Not so spectacular that I will develop a craving but nice enough [...]

Blog Back Online and new artwork

It seems that my blog is back online. Thanks to all the hours put in yesterday to resolve the issue of being listed as an attack site. It is a good thing it is not lasting for too long because there will be people reviewing my portfolio and I do not want to disappoint them. [...]

Hunchback Character Sketch

A pen and brush BW drawing of Hunchback, then digital painting with PS, overlayed with a texture paper.

Glendale Borders

Our neighbors told us it was not usual to be so cold in Glendale. In fact it was the wettest and the coldest season since he moved here. Wow… everywhere we landed, we experienced extreme weather. We remembered our other landlord telling us during summer when we arrived in LA, it wasn’t so hot either. [...]

Another weekend of eating and sketching…

Not so much of eating but plenty of chatting and spending good quality time in a cafe we found right across Barnes and Nobles after we couldn’t find a place to sit and sketch. Anyway we were at Burbank. The first sketch made in a cold morning. I enjoyed the cold. This is outside our [...]

Things around me

I began to take on a different interest on things around me. Like my tool and materials on my drawing desk, the clothes on the door, and even the dinner Kat cooked for me. I call it TV dinner because we are always watching TV while having our dinner. Kat cooked a very unfamiliar meal [...]

Night Sky

Night scene – darkness falls so quickly these days as winter nears. This was about 5.20pm. The sky was a very nice glowy kind of blue when I stepped out of the office through the back door. The moon was like a white hole in the sky. Besides, 2 items arrived at my door to [...]
