What’s with all these craze about 3D movies and sorts? To watch a 3D movie, I have to put on my contacts, the soft and disposable types, costing about a dollar per pair, so I could don on the 3D glasses which cost another 2 bucks to purchase. So all in all I am paying much more for 3D for effects that are old school, dated as far back as the heydays of Jaws. Besides you come out of the theatre dazed and not dazzled by the over rated effects of seeing dimensionality on a flat screen. Even with the new technology, you still have to wear something on your nose over your ears and sometimes weigh as heavy as 5 grams (I am just plucking numbers from the air). If this is not old school packaged in a new way?

But anyway we are still far more fortunate that Mr Cyclop over here who couldn’t even enjoy 3D even if he wants to.

Just in case you are interested, here’s a 3D version or anaglyph of Mr Cyclop, only you have a pair of 3D glasses. I have so I made myself happy!

Kat just couldn’t get enough of McDonald’s chocolate sundae. I love the cone and french fries which are not like anything in other parts of the world. Singapore’s McDonald makes the best french fries, crispy on the outside but soft inside. We took a walk to Parkway Parade this night just to walk off our calories after having a huge dinner prepared by Kat’s mom. No doubt she is a very passionate chef but she would usually overdo it and fed us like Hansel & Gretel would be with the wicked witch. Anyway the walk took about half and hour at brisk pace. After rows and rows of 2-storey shop houses, we finally arrived at the glittery shopping mall that towers over all the other dwarf pre-war shop houses. We headed straight to McDonald to get our desert. We sat and I watched how efficient the services are over at the counter, unlike what we have seen in some parts of the US, where you basically have to wait over 10 mins for your fries to come. Even so, the french fries were soggy and greasy…. hmmm….

4-Way Narrative: HBO’s Video Cube Installation 4 comments Share September 21, 2009 4-Way Narrative: HBO’s Video Cube Installation In a move that aims to enhance the storytelling experience, HBO has unveiled a four-panel video installation called the HBO Cube. It’s a unique new effort that offers four different perspectives on the same scene simultaneously. In telling the same story from four distinct points of view, each side of the cube stands alone as an engaging film, and as a piece of a larger puzzle. As viewers move around the cube, they watch the story unfold from different perspectives, forming different perceptions of the characters and plot.

Rest means going to church to hear what God has to say to me. Today Pastor told us what God has told him: “Restful Increase, the year of restful increase.” All we need to do to receive this increase is to labor unto God’s rest. This is good but what is better is that our pastor continued to tell us, rest is not inactivity, but directed activity. Having rest while you work is directed activity. Having peace when you said no to something while all circumstances tell you to say yes. So church was good. We had lunch with a few of our friends and then headed for shopping. Bought a crockpot for my parents, a transformer for ourselves and gifts for friends. Then we decided to chill out in another shopping mall where there was little crowd. My friend was right the first time; Singapore is getting more and more congested. You know, there are so many food centres you thought the crowd would be better distributed. No! These eat outs attracted those who usually eat home. Man it was so difficult to even walk straight without bumping to each other. Furthermore, this angry mob never give way to anyone, so I am playing football all the time. Tackle!! Anyway I drew this while having coffee and some snacks. A table full of coffeeshop-talk uncles who were relentless about government and policies!! Interesting bunch!!

“You tiao,[1] you char kway,[2] or yau ja gwai,[3] sometimes known in English as Chinese cruller fried bread stick or Chinese doughnut, is a long, golden-brown, deep fried strip of dough in Chinese cuisine and other East and Southeast Asian cuisines and is usually eaten for breakfast. Conventionally, youtiao are lightly salted and made so they can be torn lengthwise in two. Youtiao are normally eaten as an accompaniment for rice congee or soy milk.”

I love to eat it dipped in coffee for breakfast!!

When I was overseas I was having Laksa in my dreams. Now that I am back, I had to have it. We were out shopping at Bugis Junction when this particular food strip caught our eyes. We used to have Hainanese chicken rice there pretty often. Without much thought we walked towards the tables and was immediately greeted and welcomed to be seated. I ordered chicken rice while Kat is going to have Laksa. Our orders came within minutes! That’s one thing I loved about eating here in Singapore… since competition is really steep, everyone is up and about to serve you quickly for fear that customers would “run”. We have to pay for the food whenever it arrives at your table. It is a pay-n-eat system here. My Hainanese chicken rice cost only SGD3.80 while Kat’s laksa is at SGD4.00. Everything totaled to be less than USD 5 (approx). So cheap!!! (for more info about what’s laksa check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laksa)

We have finally returned after making America our home for 3.5 years (more or less). When asked on how I feel about it, I said I have mixed emotions. On one hand I was actually looking forward to coming back. On the other, I know I am going to miss all the friends and relationships established in the States. How so? We have been hanging out a lot, almost everyday, drinking, eating and having loads of fun together. Here, we have friends too, lotsa, but kinda different. We don’t hang out just for no good reasons. People are too busy to do just that. Every fellowships are structured and must have an objective. No one laughs anymore. Next is the weather… I have not adjusted to it since our return a week ago. In fact I told numerous people that I have not adjusted to the weather since I was born. There is no way I could stay dry and cool in this humidity even in an air-conditioned premise. Literally I am swimming in my own perspiration, not a single moment I look like the person next to me. How did everyone stay dry?? Astounding!! Just incredible. However there were moments of comfort too when I saw some people having beads of sweat shimmering on their foreheads, but still, they are not like me who is ‘pouring”. Anyway I am glad to be back. I think our parents missed us a lot.
