Don Low
Singapore

Though Don was born & bred in Singapore, he has never gotten used to the hot & humid climate here. And unlike locals, he has never successfully enjoyed chilly and spicy food without working out a sweat. Therefore he longed to live in the northern part of the earth's hemisphere or the south where he could see a change of seasons and where the weather is not as harsh. Don is basically a self taught artist and an engineer by training.

In 2006 he was awarded a MDA Media Education Scheme scholarship to pursue an overseas graduate studies in animation. On graduation, his thesis film "Cafe Voyeur" was awarded Honorable Mentions among others from around the globe in the Animag 2009 Students' Film Awards. At the same time, he was also one of the 5 teams chosen for his collaborated entry to be one of the Finalists for the Disney Imagineering ImagiNations Design Competition 2008. In addition he interned and worked a year for The Walt Disney Company Imagineer/Parks & Resorts Online as a Visual Development / Concept Artist.

“I am an animator. I feel like I'm the manager of a animation cinema factory. I am not an executive. I'm rather like a foreman, like the boss of a team of craftsmen. That is the spirit of how I work.”
--- Hayao Miyazaki.

What’s in my bag?

My wife bought me a new bag for my birthday, and after we got home from shopping, she was eager to see how the new bag works for what I usually carry around and bring along for my sketching trip. It is the best time to empty out my old bag and lay out the [...]

Celebrating Singapore’s and Don’s Birthday

Well there are a few things we are celebrating about. First of all Singapore’s 45th birthday. My 40th birthday. Tia coming back from Portland. Paul’s coming back from Hong Kong; farewell party for Paul since he is moving to HK for the next one year; farewell party for Yi Ting as she is going to [...]

A Family Portrait

So why am I drawing “cute” versions of me all these while? Well, I am testing out something for a journal book – one that I would illustrate about my life and my experiences as an artist. Not thinking whether it would sell or not, but it is something I have been thinking for some [...]

Journal in comics

Found some newsprint pad and started doodling some comics journal.

A nice evening @ Tiong Bahru

I grew up in Kim Tian Place – a very old estate in the near vicinity of Tiong Bahru. In fact, I walk to my primary school – Bukit Ho Swee East Primary School, via Tiong Bahru. I love to eat at the Tiong Bahru food centre, where I would go for my favorite Chueh [...]

Coffee and sketch breakfast

Work has been really busy but I am not complaining because I am paid to draw not carry rice sacks up to the storage room. I thank God for giving me and blessing me with the power to get wealth and doing something that I enjoy. However when things get hectic, you are robbed of [...]

Lunch Time Sketch

The group of youngsters I am eating with is a people of the future, the young and promising generation, as what our garv’men describes, the movers of what lies ahead of the days of Singapore. They are the ones who would bring this little gem to a brighter and shinier future, while we who has [...]

Chill Out in MacDonald

Kat just couldn’t get enough of McDonald’s chocolate sundae. I love the cone and french fries which are not like anything in other parts of the world. Singapore’s McDonald makes the best french fries, crispy on the outside but soft inside. We took a walk to Parkway Parade this night just to walk off our [...]

Breakfast @ Jago Close

One of the things I look forward to doing with my wife is going for breakfast on a weekend. We would suggest and explore different ideas and locations to where we would have it. One of the most important consideration would be the quality of food. The next would be the environment. We would prefer [...]
