Don Low
Singapore

Though Don was born & bred in Singapore, he has never gotten used to the hot & humid climate here. And unlike locals, he has never successfully enjoyed chilly and spicy food without working out a sweat. Therefore he longed to live in the northern part of the earth's hemisphere or the south where he could see a change of seasons and where the weather is not as harsh. Don is basically a self taught artist and an engineer by training.

In 2006 he was awarded a MDA Media Education Scheme scholarship to pursue an overseas graduate studies in animation. On graduation, his thesis film "Cafe Voyeur" was awarded Honorable Mentions among others from around the globe in the Animag 2009 Students' Film Awards. At the same time, he was also one of the 5 teams chosen for his collaborated entry to be one of the Finalists for the Disney Imagineering ImagiNations Design Competition 2008. In addition he interned and worked a year for The Walt Disney Company Imagineer/Parks & Resorts Online as a Visual Development / Concept Artist.

“I am an animator. I feel like I'm the manager of a animation cinema factory. I am not an executive. I'm rather like a foreman, like the boss of a team of craftsmen. That is the spirit of how I work.”
--- Hayao Miyazaki.

Not Fair!

What’s with all these craze about 3D movies and sorts? To watch a 3D movie, I have to put on my contacts, the soft and disposable types, costing about a dollar per pair, so I could don on the 3D glasses which cost another 2 bucks to purchase. So all in all I am paying [...]

Eating, Shopping and Sketching @ Central

What else can you do in Singapore except to eat and shop? Nothing much but just eating and shopping – the favorite past time activities of Singaporeans. So we brought our parents to Central @ Clarke Quay for a great time of eating and shopping. It wasn’t very crowded so we had plenty of space, [...]

Chill Out in MacDonald

Kat just couldn’t get enough of McDonald’s chocolate sundae. I love the cone and french fries which are not like anything in other parts of the world. Singapore’s McDonald makes the best french fries, crispy on the outside but soft inside. We took a walk to Parkway Parade this night just to walk off our [...]

Character Coloring Video

A continuation of what I have done before — this video shows the process of adding color on another layer behind the layer containing the line work.

Sunday — A Day of Rest

Rest means going to church to hear what God has to say to me. Today Pastor told us what God has told him: “Restful Increase, the year of restful increase.” All we need to do to receive this increase is to labor unto God’s rest. This is good but what is better is that our [...]

Food Illo Series

Here’s another comic illustration of myself eating a fritter. However, in this case, it is not entirely a fritter. This local delicacy is named “You Tiao” (in romanized Chinese). You may read the following cut n paste from Wikipedia: “You tiao,[1] you char kway,[2] or yau ja gwai,[3] sometimes known in English as Chinese cruller [...]

Craving for Laksa

When I was overseas I was having Laksa in my dreams. Now that I am back, I had to have it. We were out shopping at Bugis Junction when this particular food strip caught our eyes. We used to have Hainanese chicken rice there pretty often. Without much thought we walked towards the tables and [...]

First post after coming back to Singapore

We have finally returned after making America our home for 3.5 years (more or less). When asked on how I feel about it, I said I have mixed emotions. On one hand I was actually looking forward to coming back. On the other, I know I am going to miss all the friends and relationships [...]

CHIMAN & Tubbies

After hearing about Dunnies for a long while, I decided to acquire some for my own pleasure. I bought 2 Dunnies and 2 blank Munnies for fun. But maybe I should start creating and designing my own series of toys for myself too. For the time being I should call them CHIMANs and Tubbies. Here [...]
